Asphalt Shingle
This is the most common choice of roof material for a patio cover as it matches the existing build and is the least expensive.
Metal Roofing
Metal roofing offers clean lines, different colors and textures, and sounds great in the rain. This option is more expensive than shingle, but worth every penny!
Polycarbonate Roofing
Poly roofing is one of the more expensive options. Though It looks great, blocks UV and adds light to your patio, it tends to make noise when warned or cooled and can fade.

Ceiling Material
When planning your custom patio covers, it's essential to consider the ceiling since it plays a significant role in the overall aesthetic. Our most popular ceiling material request is Tongue & Groove (T&G) because it creates a warm and cozy atmosphere. While most wood options are available in T&G, Pine and Cedar stand out as the best real wood choices for durable patio covers in the Pacific Northwest.
Timber Wraps
A beam wrap is additional material, typically a 3/4" or 1" plank, that is attached to a post or beam. For custom patio covers, particularly larger ones, there is often a need to use engineered timbers or GluLam LVLs. These durable patio covers allow for bigger spans and fewer support posts. However, these beams do not stain the same way as natural Doug Fir, so we frequently recommend wrapping them if the budget permits. Wrapping your LVLs helps to conceal the engineered wood appearance and can also hide electrical wires, conduit, gas lines, brackets, and more, providing a polished finish ideal for Pacific Northwest patio covers.
Exposed or hidden hardware
Similar to Timber Wraps, when choosing custom patio covers, a decision a customer has to make is whether they want to see all the metal brackets and bolts. Some people don't mind the look, while others would prefer a more streamlined appearance. The choice between hidden or exposed brackets often comes down to cost and the requirement to wrap certain timbers. We use durable patio covers with Simpson brackets on all of our builds, as they offer several options for all applications.
